THE FIRST PACIFIC PISTOLS TEAM 1993-94
Photo taken at South Jetty along the Oregon coast. The 13U team from left to right: Meadow (Buck) Geddes, Summer (Sticky) Furgeson, TOP: Chelsea (Cheese) Dagget, Tiffany (The Band) Elmore, Brooke (Hulk) Gibson, Cassie (Wrong Way) McMillan, Miya (Toot) Barron, Liz King, Annie (Air Annie) Shrieve, Aileen (Hakeem) Thompson, Coach Jim (Big Blue) Geddes. This was the first actual Pistols team formed in 1993 after we attended AAU Nationals in 1992 as the Foothill Bullettes which were formed and played in the 1991-1992 season. After being exposed to the experience of a national competition, it was obvious that we needed to start thinking more globally rather than so locally. The team pictured was assembled from the best players in the Sacramento valley and foothills. We had an overall record of 56-8 for this season; four of our losses came during National competition and two during the northern CA Regional championships where the Marin Flight won the championship but relinquished their right to attend the AAU Nationals to the runner up Pacific Pistols. In preparation for the AAU Regional Championships we took our first road trip to Oregon. We played 7 games in 8 days and covered 1700 miles. We traveled through Klamath Falls, then played a tournament in Bend where we got our butts kicked. The next day we arrived late in Prineville but won our game. Next we traveled to Eugene and won another. Then to Florence and South Jetty for some R&R. We traveled to Portland and played a top ranked 12 and under team who we beat without trouble. We had made arrangements to play the Oregon State Championship team, the Oregon Reign, before making the journey. We stayed with them the first half but their size and stature were more than we could handle. We lost by 20. After some sight seeing we met up with the Reign again in Oregon City. They were very big and strong and we were proud but tired and lost by 15. The Pistols later earned a trip to the AAU Nationals held in Kenner (New Orleans) Louisiana, where they defeated Connecticut in a practice game, Central Alabama and Vermont in the friendship tournament. The Oregon Reign took 4th Place at Nationals that year. As the 14U Pistols, the nucleus of this team won the northern CA Championships, beating Marin Flight, and returned to the AAU Nationals in Indianapolis Indiana where they defeated Arkansas, and Missouri in pool play but lost to the National Champion Kenner Angels and Indiana's Finest Red. The following 2 years they placed third as the 15U Pistols and 16U Pistols in their Regional Championships. As 16's the four remaining players from the original team were: Meadow, Aileen, Brook and Tiffany.
